Israel has confirmed striking the Abu al-Duhur military airbase in Syria to prevent Turkish forces from establishing a presence there, after Damascus reportedly ignored repeated Israeli warnings. The attack drew rare public criticism from Washington, with US envoy Tom Barrack calling it an “unnecessary escalation” and warning that it nearly triggered a military confrontation between Israel and Turkey. Misgav’s David M. Weinberg joins Israel in Ten to discuss Israel’s increasingly tense relationship with Ankara and the security challenge emerging in post-Assad Syria.

Meanwhile, Iran has reportedly considered striking US military assets in Europe if President Trump escalates the war. The Financial Times says potential targets include facilities in Bulgaria and Cyprus, while Tehran has also examined attacks on undersea communications cables in the Strait of Hormuz.

President Trump has reportedly ordered an indefinite halt to talks with Iran after growing frustrated with Tehran’s refusal to meet US demands. CNN says Washington is shifting away from seeking a rapid agreement towards sustained economic pressure.

The UAE has suspended all trade, commercial exchanges and financial transactions with Iran until further notice, citing escalating regional tensions.

National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir has visited a new facility being built in central Israel where terrorists sentenced to death will be hanged. The site will include a death-row wing, gallows and viewing booths for surviving victims and their families.

Syrian authorities have arrested former Assad-era security officer Musab Abu Rukba after he fled Austria, where he was sentenced to eight years in prison for abusing detainees.

And the remains of Israeli soldier Sgt. First Class Yehuda Katz have been returned to Israel, 44 years after he went missing during the Battle of Sultan Yacoub. His recovery brings the decades-long search for all three Israeli soldiers missing from the 1982 battle to an end.
